1963

Receives degree from Orange Coast College

1964

Moves to San Francisco to attend the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) to study ceramics and painting

1968

Graduates San Francisco Art Institute and meets Martha Mackey

1970

Receives MFA, San Francisco Art Institute

Early 1970s

Experiments with cast painting techniques. Member of Artists Committee at SFAI

1971

Curates “Off the Stretcher” and other exhibitions throughout the decade

1973

Marries Martha Mackey

David Mackenzie “one man” exhibitions at De Saisset Art Museum, University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, CA; Reed College, Portland, OR and San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA

Traveled to Europe and visited many European masters’ artworks

1975

Exhibits Rhoplex piece in Whitney Biennial curated by Marsha Tucker

Receives National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant

1982

Buys studio building with fellow artist Gary Apotheker. Sells building in 1985

1986

Moves with Mackey to New York and sets up in Brooklyn. Purchases and rehabs building in Columbia Street Waterfront District. Becomes a neighborhood activist

1990s

Continues to develop his style of meticulously constructed canvases

1991

Buys and renovates second home in Sharon Springs NY

1998

 Exhibits at LA Gallery, Moscow - New Exchange, Moscow, Russia

2001

Invitational Exhibition of Painting & Sculpture, American Academy of Arts & Letters, NY, NY

2004

Receives Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

2005

Moves to Upstate New York. Refines his engineered canvas techniques and continues to refine his paint surfaces

Purchases studio in Norwich NY

Awarded membership in AAA

Buys home in Joshua Tree CA and begins to spend time there

Paris Concret, Paris, France. American Abstract Artists International: 75th Anniversary

Builds studio in Joshua Tree
